Stop Climate Chaos

Leeds Question Time

The Leeds Energy Question Time was on Friday 23rd January between 5pm and 7pm at the Civic Hall, Millennium Square (LS1 1UR).

The event was organised by Oxfam's Leeds office on behalf of Stop Climate Chaos and was politically charged and well attended.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn was joined by the Shadow Transport Secretary, Robert Goodwill MP, the Leader of Leeds City Council, Cllr Richard Brettt, who was also the Lib Dem representative on the panel, and Martin Kirk, Oxfam's Head of UK Campaigns to take questions from the Great Hall of the packed Leeds Civic Centre.

The audience asked searching questions on topics such as whether Britain could meet its carbon challenge by going nuclear, the potential role of carbon capture and storage, the planning and environmental challenges of airport expansion in Yorkshire, and the economic benefits to business of reducing emissions. In the responses the audience heard many examples from Leeds and farther afield of good practice in using renewable energy sources.

The event was covered in the Yorkshire Post and listed on Facebook.
