Over 350 people, most of them on their bikes, gathered outside the office of the Scottish Government on Wednesday 11th January to urge Scottish Ministers to increase funding for cycling and walking instead of funding expensive road-building programmes that will increase Scotland’s carbon footprint.

Scotland has shown global leadership by setting the most ambitious emissions reduction targets in the world. But our Climate Change Act can only set a good example if we actually achieve what we’ve committed to do – and that’s under threat, as the Scottish Government has failed to fund its own plans to reduce emissions.

Thanks to your help, our recent e-actions have helped influence key MSPs in the Scottish Parliament to call for proper funding for action on climate change, but we still have to convince Ministers to amend their budget plans accordingly. The Budget Bill will be laid before Parliament next week and will be finalised and voted on before mid-February. So there is still an opportunity to influence what is and what isn't funded.

Transport and Housing Minister, Keith Brown MSP, came along to the event and received a letter from Stop Climate Chaos Scotland about this issue. A duplicate letter was also provided for Finance Secretary, John Swinney MSP. You can read our letter to the Ministers here (both letters were the same).

When: Wednesday 11th January 2012, 1pm
